Christian Counseling

Eclecticism:

A conceptual approach that does not hold rigidly to a single paradigm or set of assumptions, but instead draws upon multiple theories, styles, or ideas to gain complementary insights into a subject, or applies different theories in particular cases.

It is a system which therapists put strong emphasis on not fitting a client into a predetermined treatment. Pulling from many treatment approaches allowing the flexibility to tailor the therapy in a manner to meet the individual needs of a client. The assumption is that individuals are troubled by a variety of specific problems and it is appropriate that a multitude of treatment strategies be used in bringing about change. "Therapeutic flexibility and versatility along with breadth over depth, are valued highly. Therapists are constantly adjusting their procedures to achieve the client's goal in therapy (Lazarus, 1995, 1997a)".

Although this approach appears to be a grab bag of ideas, this is a very precise specific proven method of treatment.
